Monday, we took the girls to John D. McArther Beach State Park. We had a picnic lunch, then went to see the park's indoor exhibits, which is where we saw the red rat snake, as well as lots of fish and turtles. We then went across a small bay to Singer Island, where we walked on a nature trail down to the beach. The girls had fun playing in the sand and climbing in the sand dunes. A week or two earlier, there was a news report on television about a swarm of sharks at this beach and when we saw something dark in the water, we assumed it was a shark, but a park ranger later told us that it was probably a manatee.
